The film is based on shivudu an adventurous young man pursuing for the woman he love, and also a rebellious warrior intending to rescue the former queen to the kingdom of Mahishmati, but while in the process he learns of his true identity as the heir to the throne of Mahishmati.

The truth is narrated to him by Kattappa a loyal warrior who admits being behind the murder of his father Amarendra Baahubali. Capturing the audience’s attention the film was made on a budget of $ 26 million. Making it the most expensive Indian film at its time of release which was first premiered on the 10^th of July 2005.
